Seagulls Show Signs of Momentum in Roller Coaster Week
Over the week of June 16-22, the San Francisco Seagulls took the field for six games, four at home and two on the road, finishing with a 3-3 split. As of Monday June 23, the team holds a 4-12 record, but back-to-back wins have sparked some momentum heading into the final stretch of June.
The week began with a tough 7-1 loss at home against the Walnut Creek Crawdads on Tuesday the 17th, followed by a solid bounce-back victory away on Wednesday against the Alameda Merchants. A narrow 5-4 loss to the Menlo Park Legends on Thursday capped the short road-trip.
Back at home, the Seagulls struggled in Friday's rematch with the Merchants, falling 18-6.
However, the following day's extra-inning thriller against the Philippines Baseball Group ended in a 11-10 walk-off win on a wild-pitch in the 11th. Down late, the offense came alive with five runs in the ninth inning to tie the game and send it into extras. Finn Whalen pitched four strong innings, and earned both the win in relief. The team finished with eight hits on the day.
The Seagulls closed out the week on Sunday with a 5-3 victory over the Legends. The Seagulls racked up nine hits with no errors. Ben Resnick earned the win after throwing three innings in relief and striking out two.
Since the win on Sunday, the team is riding a two-game winning streak. Next up, the Gulls have three games against Menlo Park and three games against Walnut Creek to round out the week.
