Seagulls Stumble Through Road-Heavy Week Despite Bright Spots
Following a promising 3-3 showing the week prior, the San Francisco Seagulls struggled to maintain momentum in a tough six-game stretch from June 23-29. With all but one game played on the road, the Seagulls went 1-5 on the week, dropping their record to 5-17 heading into July.
The week opened with a pair of close losses against the Menlo Park Legends. On Tuesday, San Francisco fell 6-3 despite out-hitting the Legends. Wednesday's rematch came down to the wire, with the Seagulls nearly pulling off a comeback before ultimately falling short, 6-5.
The team then shifted to a three-game set against the Walnut Creek Crawdads, beginning Thursday with a 4-0 shutout loss. Friday's home game offered no relief, as the Crawdads capitalized on early mistakes and handed the Seagulls an 8-3 defeat. Still, the Seagulls managed to collect seven hits, showing flashes of offensive production despite the score.
Facing the Legends again on Saturday, the Seagulls finally broke through. Behind timely hitting and strong relief pitching, they earned a hard-fought 5-3 road victory, their only win of the week. Logan Wenzel, Jackson Schefsky, Ben Eisenhauer and Lincoln Juarez combined for a one hitter in the win. However, the momentum didn't carry into Sunday, when the Crawdads dominated in a 10-2 loss to close out the stretch. All six games came against just two opponents, both of whom have consistently challenged the Seagulls throughout the season.
Looking ahead, the Seagulls are scheduled to play four games this week, beginning tonight with yet another matchup against the Walnut Creek Crawdads at Monte Vista High School. From there, they'll hit the road on Thursday, July 3, to face the Sonoma Stompers for the fourth time this season. The team will return home for back-to-back games, hosting the Legends on Saturday, July 5, and the Stompers on Sunday, July 6.
With a mix of familiar and somewhat-new opponents, the Seagulls will look to reset and regain some traction heading into the second half of the summer schedule.
